But even if you can’t shave off inches from your gut in an instant, there are tons of things you can do throughout the day that’ll help you banish bloat, de-puff, and see a noticeably smaller middle. Here, we’ve discovered seven ways to stand taller, feel lighter, and get a flatter belly in 24 hours.

When You Wake Up

Rise and shine. Call it an optical illusion, but the surest way to look and feel slimmer is to stand taller. Skip your grandmother’s trick of balancing books on your head and attempt morning yoga instead. “In general, yoga makes you stand taller and feel like there’s extra space inside your body,” says Tara Stiles, a New York City-based yoga instructor and author of Slim Calm Sexy Yoga. Stand up straight with your hands interlaced behind your back and tilt your head up toward the ceiling. Moving your hands up and over your back, fold your body into a forward bend. Release and roll up.

For an even faster fix, do this posture-correcting stretch from Kate Albarelli, creator of Figure 4, a barre program offered at PURE Yoga in New York City. Stand facing a wall and put your right arm in front of you, palm flat on the wall. Keeping your palm against the wall, turn your whole body, including your feet on the left until you can go no farther. Hold for thirty seconds. Repeat on the opposite side. You’ll stretch out your pectoralis minor, muscle that connects your breastbone to the within the shoulder, which when tight causes the shoulders to round.
